Dr. Atilla Kilicarslan earned his BSc in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Medical Robotics and Advanced Control of Smart Materials at the University of Houston and is currently leading a project (NeuroREX) to control a lower-body exoskeleton using user’s Thoughts / Brainwaves, for people with spinal cord injury. Prior to joining the Neuroscience community, he did his PhD in mechanical engineering, focusing on systems design, control optimization and automation. Designed and built several autonomous and semi-autonomous robot prototypes. Developed solutions for wheel-less locomotion for hyper-redundant mobile robots and prototype medical haptic-robotic systems.
He has extensive experience on real-time signal processing, signal denoising, physiological data analysis, human-machine interfaces, real-time control of mechatronic systems, mathematical modeling and linear/non-linear mapping
